G. Thomas Emmanuel Scholarship

The family of Tom Emmanuel and our local Board 60 basketball officials are prepared to award our annual $500.00 scholarship to a worthy male and female candidate. We wanted to thank each Guidance Department and their Advisors for the success of our program last year and invite your participation again this year. I encourage you and your school to participate. Following is a description of our program and its intent.

This is the 23rd year of the program with a total of $21,500 having been awarded since its inception in 1987. Forty-one (43) worthy recipients from all of our represented leagues within Section V have been finalists and have had the opportunity to use these awards to pursue the continuation of their matriculation process.

The format was modified in 1989 to include a combination male/female winner. Recent participation has been good, but can always be improved and that is the reason we are focusing on the Guidance or Career Counselors to carry the message through their respective schools. It is our wish to have 100% school involvement. If you have not participated in the past, we urge you to give consideration to this award. Although modest by today's standards, the scholarship can be very significant to the individual(s) and his or her family.  Basically, all you need to do is coordinate this notice within the school administration and return the results.

Guidelines

Each school is encouraged to nominate one graduating male and/or female student-athlete(s) meeting the following minimum requirements.  We feel these are qualities that Tom would have suggested and supported.

  • has financial need;
  • has demonstrated good academic values;
  • has leadership ability and portrays good citizen and community involvement;
  • has displayed good sportsmanship and is a team oriented individual;
  • is currently or was previously a Varsity basketball player for a minimum of 2 years.

Sincerely,
Ed Rounds
